Highlights of our match against Dundee Dynamos
Our team for the League Cup was Cameron Torrance (GK) James Doull (Playmaker) Scott Robb (Right Wing) Stuart Niven (Left Wing).
Our first match against Strathclyde was a very even contest with the match ending as a 0-0 draw with both teams having few chance to score. However, Tigers had the better chances and were disappointed not to break the deadlock.
In our next match we played Dundee Dynamos which we won 5-0 with the Tigers playing some great football in the first half. The Tigers put Dynamos under sme early pressure with Robb nearly scoring at the back post direct from a hit in by Niven. Midway through the first half Tigers went 1-0 up with Niven scoring with a spin hit from a great pass by Doull. After 10 minutes Tigers went 2-0 up after Doull scored direct from a hit in by Robb. Al few minutes later Tigers went 3-0 with Niven scoring with a spin hit again from an indirect free kick by Doull. Robb should have made it 4-0 just before half-time missing a great chance at the back post after a great pass by Doull. Tigers got a penalty just before the interval after Doull was fouled in the box which was scored by Robb making it 4-0 to Tigers at half-time.
The Tigers missed a couple of early chances in the second half to make it 5-0 with Niven hitting the post and Robb's shot going narrowly wide of the post. Torrance came out of goal midway into the second half with Niven having a spell between the sticks. Tigers nearly scored after a long range goal clearance from Niven went to Robb who crossed the ball to Torrance who then laid it off to Doull whose shot agonisingly smashed off the post. With a few minutes to go Torrance made it 5-0 after a great pass from Robb.
Tigers next match was against reigning Premiership champions Tayside. The Tigers lost 4-0 but to be fair the match was a lot closer than the final score line suggests.
In the final match of the day against reigning League Cup champions Lothian Wolves the Tigers knew they needed to win to qualify for the League Cup finals in April. The match was a very close affair but thanks to a great strike by team captain Doull the Tigers came out on top with a 1-0 win.
Tayside Dynamos, Ayrshire Tigers and Strathclyde will all compete in a mini round robin table where the winner of the group will be crowned League Cup Champion.
Lothian Wolves and Dundee United Dynamos will compete in a one-off final for the League Cup Plate.
